Since the early 1970s, consumption of soda has grown while tap water consumption has delined.  In 1986, soda passed tap water as Americans most chosen beverage.

Growth in bottled water demonstrates Americans’ desire to get back to basics – choosing fresh, clean water that is convenient for their on-the-go lives.

Among the six largest beverage categories, only bottled water is showing steady growth.  Americans are increasing their bottled water use because they say “it’s healthful and refreshing,”  “has no calories,” “it’s convenient.”
