“Nestlé Waters North America has been a cornerstone in Project WET's success and has been essential to our work. The company’s commitment extends beyond its financial support to the volunteerism of its employees, who take a personal interest in helping children, teachers, schools and communities understand water. I see this as the reflection of a company that truly cares about the future of our children and water resources.”

Nestlé Waters North America is committed to the communities in which we work and live, and the environment that sustains all of us. Nestlé Waters North America believes Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) will prepare those involved in this award-winning program to make informed decisions about water resources.

Project WET
The mission of Project WET is to reach children, teachers, parents and communities worldwide through water education. Since its inception in 1984, the Project WET program has been grounded in the following beliefs:

Water is for all water users and is essential to everyone.

Wise water management is crucial for providing tomorrow’s children with social and economic stability in a healthy environment.

An early awareness of and respect for water resources can encourage a personal, lifelong commitment of responsibility and positive community participation in water resources.

A Partnership Begins
Through the sponsorship of Nestlé Waters North America, which began in 1992, Project WET provides teacher, student and community training workshops on water resource topics, including watershed and wetland protection, water conservation, groundwater protection, water stewardship, and the sustainable management of water resources. Project WET provides teachers, students, community leaders, legislators and citizens with award-winning publications on water resource topics.

A Decade of Dedication
Nestlé Waters North America’s sponsorship has enabled Project WET to grow globally, as the following timeline illustrates:

1992: Poland Spring initiates its sponsorship of Project WET in Maine.

1998: Nestlé Waters North America expands sponsorship of Project WET to all 50 states.

2004: Nestlé Waters, parent company of Nestlé Waters North America, sponsors Project WET International.

Project WET by the Numbers
U.S. Project WET is active in every state in the U.S. and has involved over 1,000 federal, state and local agencies and organizations. Over 150,000 teachers in grades K-12 received Project WET training, reaching nearly 23 million students.

Making a Splash
In addition to sponsoring Project WET workshops and publications, Nestlé Waters North America is the founding sponsor of the Make a Splash with Project WET festivals. Since 2000, Make a Splash represents the largest, single-day water education event in the nation. The Make a Splash festival enables children to appreciate water resources and learn how to protect them through fun and educationally sound activities. The festival raises awareness of water education’s importance in ensuring the long-term availability of pure water for future generations.

“Mississippi Make a Splash 2004 was a great success! We used the majority of our grant funds to provide transportation for schools that are in economically disadvantaged areas. Most of these students spend a total of over two hours one way on the bus to attend Splash. Without this grant money, these schools would not have been able to attend.”
