Q. Do bottled water companies use a great deal of water?
A. While bottled water is an obvious user of water, it is actually a very small user. One might say, “a drop in the bucket.”

The amount of water used by Nestlé Waters North America is 0.001 percent of total water used in the U.S. each year. And, that supplies the 67 percent of American households (source: Nielsen) that regularly enjoy bottled water as a calorie-free refreshment choice. Even so, Americans are still drinking more than twice as many soft drinks as they are bottled water, on a per capita beverage consumption basis.

It might also come as a surprise to know that bottled water actually requires significantly less water to produce than any other beverage. At Nestlé Waters North America, for example, producing one gallon of bottled water requires 1.3 gallons of water.
