It seems like everyone appreciates bottled water's convenience, healthfulness, good taste and dependable quality. After all, it's healthy, refreshing, and free of calories and additives.

People are increasingly returning to water as their choice of refreshment and source of well-being. In fact, in 2005, 82% of adults, ages 18-59, consumed bottled water; 70% consumed at least one bottle per week*.

Per capita consumption of bottled water has risen steadily since 1976, and the bottled water category has managed to more than double its per capita consumption level since 1995, when consumers drank an average of 11.7 gallons. After some broad-based softness in beverage category sales in 2008 and 2009, the US bottled water market experienced an above average comeback in 2010, advancing 0.9 pts per capita over 2009.

Our brands are top performers and our significant investments in our people, facilities and technology have enabled high-speed manufacturing practices, high-quality products, and a low-cost distribution system. The result is that Nestlé Waters North America represented 36.4% ($) of the bottled water market in 2010 with sales of $4.11 billion.

Nestlé Waters' strength in bottled water is reflected in our share of leadership, which on a volume basis increased to 33.7% in 2010, driven by our strong brands and retail focus.

Seven of Nestlé Waters North America's well-known bottled water brands ranked among the top 10 U.S. bottled waters nationally in 2010. Six of the seven brands are only sold regionally.

In 2010 as the economy began to recover bottled water was the only beverage of the top 6 showing positive gains followed by coffee.

Of smaller consumption beverages, there appears to be growth in the following categories with Ready-to-drink demonstrating the strongest growth.
