What We’re Doing
We're committed to recycling in our own operations. We're taking steps to reduce the amount of materials we use in every phase of our operations — from the plastic we use in our bottles right down to making sure that we're recycling materials at our in-plant facilities. Through improvements in our in-plant recycling process, in 2009 we were able to recycle 95% of the product waste generated at these facilities. In addition, in some of our administrative offices, we have composting systems in place to also minimize food waste.
Our commitment to sustainability – and recycling – is something we share with many others. That's why we're also partnering with a variety of organizations to spread the word.
Keep America Beautiful
Nestlé Waters is partnering with Keep America Beautiful to help promote awareness and education about the importance of recycling and to develop programs to collect more of our bottles. In 2010 alone, it’s estimated that three million volunteers took part in cleanup efforts across the nation.

The Great American Cleanup
Keep America Beautiful sponsors the Great American Cleanup, the nation’s largest community improvement and beautification program. It takes place each year from March 1 through May 31. In 2010, we provided water to volunteers for all 30,000 events taking place across the 50 states. We also donated park benches made of recycled plastic to various local parks.
NYC Marathon
As a sponsor to the ING New York City Marathon, we provide water to runners along the route to help keep them hydrated. To minimize waste at this event, we placed bins to collect water bottles. Along the course, 65,000 1 gallon bottles were recycled as well as 1.6 million cups.
Canada Public Spaces Program
We partnered with several other organizations, including Ontario’s Waste Diversion Continuous Improvement Fund (CIF), to improve recycling efforts in Canada’s public spaces. Many of these areas didn’t even have recycle bins in place when the program began. Once bins were available, there was a significant increase in plastic waste being collected and recycled.
