Arrowhead® Brand Mountain Spring Water Team Marks Century Milestone at One of the Oldest Manufacturing Facilities in City of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – (April 29, 2017) – Nestlé Waters North America today gathered its local employees, their families and business partners to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its Los Angeles factory—one of the oldest manufacturing facilities in the city still in continuous use today. The factory, at the corner of Washington Boulevard and Compton Avenue close to downtown Los Angeles, has bottled Arrowhead® Mountain Spring Water at this location since 1917.

The Arrowhead bottling facility and the local ReadyRefresh SM home and office delivery branch today share the same campus and employ a workforce of 158 employees, four of whom are among the most tenured employees at Nestlé Waters North America, with more than 178 years of combined service to the company.

"It is an honor to have been a part of the Los Angeles community for the past 100 years," said Tara Carraro, Executive Vice President & Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Nestlé Waters North America. "Although much has changed over the past century, the pride our staff takes in bottling this precious resource, and their commitment to the local community, have been unwavering."

The Arrowhead bottling facility opened on September 23, 1917 and, according to The Los Angeles Times, was "one of the largest establishments of its kind in the West." Today, Arrowhead spring water is bottled in the same factory complex that opened 100 years ago. Surrounding buildings have been replaced and upgraded over the years, but the original factory is still in operation today. Arrowhead® Mountain Spring Water was the official water supplier of the 1932 and 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

"The LA campus is immensely proud of our historic roots in Los Angeles and 100 years of continuous operation and community service," said Willy Pesnec, Los Angeles Factory Manager at Nestlé Waters North America. "The majority of our employees reside in Los Angeles, and we are honored to call this city our home."

Before construction of the factory, water collected from the Arrowhead Springs water was bottled in the basement of the historic Arrowhead Springs Hotel, near its source in the San Bernardino Mountains. From there, it was shipped to customers in five-gallon glass bottles via the Pacific Electric Railway. After the Los Angeles factory opened in 1917, the increasingly popular spring water was transported in glass-lined railroad tank cars to the factory, where it was bottled and distributed throughout the region.

The same springs in the San Bernardino Mountains are still used today as an important source for Arrowhead® Mountain Spring Water. Only water that flows to the surface at Arrowhead Springs is collected, ensuring bottling is limited to what is naturally available at any given time. Arrowhead's team of biologists, hydrologists, geologists and local engineers continually monitor and care for the area, and this commitment to sustainability has allowed the springs to continue to operate for more than a century.

Nestlé Waters North America employs more than 1,200 Californians, providing rewarding careers and high-quality jobs.
