Governor Rell's proposal to reinvent Connecticut's bottle deposit law gives the Legislature the first real opportunity in decades to dramatically expand recycling and protect the environment and she has our full support.

Connecticut's bottle bill needs to evolve, and the governor's plan shows how it can be modernized in a way that boosts bottled water recycling, supports municipal curbside recycling and provides flexible convenient return options that don't burden our grocery stores. By re-routing the flow of nickels into this trust fund, the governor has devised a system that will increase recycling rates, improve the environment, and pay for itself.

We stand ready to work with Governor Rell land the legislature to pass a bottle bill like this - that works.
