Doing our Part in Local Communities
Like everyone, we see how the drought is affecting families, communities, farms, and businesses in California. That’s why we’re committed to doing our part to manage our water in the state.
Working Toward 144 Million Gallons of Water Savings
With nine Nestlé manufacturing facilities in California, including five Nestlé Waters North America bottling plants, Nestlé understands the opportunity to make a big difference. Together, Nestlé and Nestlé Waters North America are putting innovative technology in place that’s projected to save 144 million gallons of water each year:
- We saved approximately 67 million gallons of water across our bottling facilities in 2016 (more than the estimated 55 million).
- Nestlé’s ice cream factories in Bakersfield and Tulare are improving their cleaning processes to use as little water as possible — saving more than 26 million gallons of water a year.
- At Nestlé Waters North America, we are upgrading technology at all five of our bottling factories in California, including the use of recycled water for our cooling, which will save an expected 55 million gallons a year beginning in 2016.
These efforts build on Nestlé’s global commitment to identify opportunities to reduce water waste and implement new technologies. Find out more about Nestlé’s global commitment to water.
