The Town of Poland Selectboard and the Community Economic Development Committee are delighted to announce Poland Spring® Brand 100% Natural Spring Water as the 2020 Poland Business of Year.
Poland Spring’s extensive history began 175 years ago when Hiram Ricker first discovered the original source in the woods of Maine. Dating back to 1845, Maine settlers and respective dignitaries flocked to Poland Spring for its refreshing water and picturesque setting. In the early 1900’s, a state-of-the-art bottling facility and springhouse were constructed using Spanish architecture as its theme. Today, these buildings together are known as Preservation Park, housing a dedication to the growth of the Poland Spring brand. After a three-year restoration project, the facilities, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, were faithfully transformed into an informative museum and event venue open to the public.
Poland is privileged to be the home of both the historic Poland Spring Preservation Park and one of the company’s three bottling facilities in the state. Providing 350 jobs to the region and nearly 900 statewide. The Poland Selectboard and CEDC are pleased to honor the heritage of this great Maine based company as well as their investment in the state.
“Poland Spring is known locally for being a good neighbor and giving back to the community. They provide support in the form of donations and volunteer efforts with the Tri-town Food Bank, send elementary students in the district to the Ecology School, grant Good Science Scholarships to graduating seniors, donate gifts for the holidays, support our local first responders, sponsor Poland Heritage Day, contribute to the Poland Spring Preservation Society, and conduct their Brookie Buddies program in our elementary school”, said Matthew Garside, Poland Town Manager. “Their commitment to the town and the entire state of Maine is impressive beyond words.”
As a long-time employee of Poland Spring, as well as a resident of Poland, this recognition has special meaning to me,” said Heather Printup, Community Relations Manager for Poland Spring. “I'm proud to work for a company that has and continues to make a positive impact on the town where the brand began, as well as the state of Maine.”
Poland Spring, represented by Community Relations Manager Heather Printup and Plant Manager Samuel Gordon, received their 2020 Business of the Year award at a small gathering at the Poland Spring Resort on September 9th, under a tent generously donated by Poland Spring for this and future events.
