Local bottling facility awarded for enhanced environmental standards

Chesterfield County, S.C. – (May 4, 2018) – After a rigorous, nearly three-year process, Nestlé Waters North America’s Chesterfield County bottling facility near McBee is now LEED certified, making it the 11th building to meet sustainable LEED standards for the company.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. To become LEED certified, there must be a deliberate effort, from construction to production and maintenance, to use energy and other resources efficiently that ultimately reduce the building’s environmental impact.

“It is an honor to be recognized as a LEED certified facility,” says Brent Keener, Factory Manager for Nestlé Waters North America. “Nestlé Waters takes great pride in protecting our environment and its precious natural resources, so we, as a Chesterfield County team, have worked hard to meet the LEED standards which help us limit our environmental footprint.”

LEED is an internationally recognized certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to assess the environmental performance of a building. The Chesterfield County, S.C. Nestlé Waters facility was evaluated based on several categories including: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Innovation in Design. Some of the features that helped the plant earn its certification, include:

Bicycle storage and changing rooms
Low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles
Quality control in the stormwater design
Water efficient landscaping
Recycled materials used during construction

In 2003, Nestlé Waters became the first food and beverage manufacturer in the U.S. to receive LEED certification for its Stanwood, Michigan plant. The commitment to remain environmentally conscious continued with the Nestlé Waters Headquarters in Stamford, Conn., earning the LEED Gold certification in 2011, and now the company’s Chesterfield County facility carrying on the stewardship with its most recent LEED certification.
