BlueTriton Brands Joins World Resources Institute’s Aqueduct Alliance on Water Stewardship

BlueTriton Brands has joined forces with World Resources Institute (WRI), becoming a member of their Aqueduct Alliance, a space for leading companies, governments, and foundations to gain strategic guidance and industry insight on water stewardship. In this partnership, BlueTriton will refine its long-term vision for water stewardship, provide WRI with important data to assist with research and analysis on identifying and reducing long-term water risk, and network with a community of businesses and experts to stay on the forefront of water stewardship.

BlueTriton is a leading producer of spring water, purified and other beverage products which has a dedicated team of geologists, hydrogeologists, and engineers who are responsible for managing over 40 spring water sources in the U.S. and Canada. The BlueTriton team is focused on taking proactive measures through stewardship of land and watersheds to promote long-term water supply and water quality.

“We believe it is critical to protect safe, sustainably-sourced drinking water that we all rely on,” said Ed Ferguson, Chief Sustainability Offer. “BlueTriton's partnership with WRI will help us build upon the company’s ongoing stewardship efforts and create a long-term plan to help protect drinking water for generations to come.”

Through this partnership, WRI and BlueTriton seek to combine their expertise, datasets, and capabilities to improve understanding of water risk in catchments of interest in North America, including BlueTriton’s spring sources and in the surrounding communities. WRI and BlueTriton plan to collaborate in the following ways to deliver on this mission:

  • Identify shared water challenges through top-down and bottom-up risk assessments of water availability, quality, and access. The top-down assessment, which will be applied across all BlueTriton sites, will combine company data with information from WRI’s Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas to better understand future projections of water supply, demand, and stress. We will complement this work with a bottom-up assessment focused on local water-related considerations and shared water challenges in priority catchments.

  • Refine a long-term water stewardship strategy, utilizing the outputs from the water risk analyses to help inform and prioritize actions and locations. WRI will provide expertise on accepted frameworks, knowledge of priority locations, and contextual water objectives to inform, co-develop, and provide recommendations for an impact-oriented water stewardship strategy.

As a member of the Aqueduct Alliance, BlueTriton will have access to WRI’s expertise and peer-learning opportunities supporting its pursuit of building a better water company.
